What Is Quake 3?
Quake 3: Arena is the third game in the Quake series of games by acclaimed developer id software. The main difference between Q3:A and it's predecessors is that it is mainly based on the multiplayer aspect of gameplay. A single player version is also included for practicing against computer controlled AI (artificially intelligent) 'bots'. Quake 3: Arena debuted in the last week of November 1999 and sales have been steady since then.
Quake 3: Arena is a versitle game for many reasons. It has extremely fast net-code to help get rid of lag, or latency that slows down gameplay over the internet, has the ability to be played over local area networks (LAN), direct cable connections, and in a single player mode. Quake 3: Arena also allows the end user to create his or her own levels, modify the game, and do lots of other cool things. A large community of game players has grown up around the Quake series and there are always plenty of opponents to face as well as lots of news, files, info, modifications, and everything else concerning the game floating around the net.
Quake 3: Arena also contains 4 distinct styles of gameplay. FFA, or free for all mode, lets gamers jump into any level of the game and fight against all the other players in a deathmatch. The second mode of the game is tournament, which pits players in 1 on 1 matches against each other. The third mode of gameplay is CTF, or capture the flag, which involves two teams, red and blue. The main goal of CTF is to aid your team mates in capturing the other teams flag and return it to your own base. The fourth and final mode of gameplay is teamplay, which pits two teams, red and blue, against each other in a deathmatch.
