Tiny Camera's Installation Guide for Microsoft Windows XP Drivers

This is the step-by-step guide to install the Tiny Camera under Microsoft Windows XP

Before you start, I must warn you that this is a very draft guide of installing the drivers, using the tinycam_0060.zip drivers (available on the main TinyCam page) and this is done at YOUR OWN RISK. Please remember this.

download tinycam_0060.zip

extract the file with WinZip

run camera.exe to run the setup

install it

plug camera in

wait for new hardware notification

bubble should say "usb composite device" then error - ignore it.

go to start -> control panel -> system -> hardware tab and then click on device manager

find entry of "us composite device" with a yellow ! on it

open it (double click) then click on 'driver' tab

click on 'update driver'

pick "install from a list or specific location" and then "don't search. I will choose the driver to install" -> next

You should see "dual mode DSC" - pick it. Click Next

Ignore the "Dual Mode DSC has not passed Windows Logo testing" - click on "Continue anyway" button.

You may get an error message of "the device cannot start" - if you do - finish the installation

Unplug the camera and then plug it in. You should now get "USB" as found new hardware, click on "Install from a list or specific location" - Next

Pick "Don't search. I will choose the driver to install -> Next

You should see "Dual Mode DSC WDM Still Image Capture - select it and then Next button

Ignore the "Dual Mode DSC WDM Still Image Capture has not passed Windows Logo testing" warming - click click on "Continue anyway" button.

You will then get the "Please insert the Compact Disc labeled "Dual Mode DSC Driver Installation Disk" - click on OK and modify the path to c:\windows\system3232\drivers - click Ok

It will install the drivers and finally "Finish" Windows XP will then do the find new hardware again and this time, it will pop up for "Dual Mode DSC Video Capture". Again, use the click on "Install from a list or specific location" - Next and then pick "Don't search. I will choose the driver to install -> Next

You should see "Dual Mode DSC WDM Video Capture" - pick it -> Next

Ignore the "Dual Mode DSC WDM Video Capture has not passed Windows Logo testing" - click on "Continue anyway" button.

You may get the "Setup cannot copy the file msh263.drv" error - change the path to c:\windows\options\cabs and then click on "Retry" button - select yes to overwrite the file

you may get the "setup cannot copy the file dshowext.ax" error - ignore it and pick to carry on with the setup.

Next, "setup cannot copy the file vfwwdm32.dll" - change the path to c:\windows\options\cabs and then click on retry - select yes to overwrite

next - "Please insert the Compact Disc labeled "Dual Mode DSC Driver Installation Disk" - click on OK and modify the path to c:\windows\system3232\drivers - click Ok

next "setup cannot copy the file sp5x_32.dll" - change the path to c:\windows\options\cabs and then click on retry - select yes to overwrite

finally click on the finish button

you will get "your new hardware is installed and is ready" bubble

open up any paint program. I will use Paint Shop Pro as an example

go to File -> Import -> TWAIN -> Select Source and ensure that "Dual Mode DSC 1.0 (32-32)" is selected. Click on Select button

Then go to File -> Import -> TWAIN and pick "Acquire"

It will start downloading the pictures for you to save. To save, click on "Select All" or pick a picture to save. Click on "Get Pictures" and pick the location where you want to save the pictures to. Click OK and the pictures will be saved as JPG format.
